BLOOD LACTATE TESTING

An essential requirement for any professional sportsman/woman or sports enthusiast who uses a heart rate monitor for training purposes

The test is most accurately carried out specific to your sport where possible. Ie. Rowing ergometer, static bike or own bike on a turbotrainer, or treadmill.

A blood lactate threshold test accurately monitors the point at which the intensity of exercise reaches a specific limit where the production of lactate exceeds the body’s capacity to metabolise  it. Resulting in a switch from aerobic training to the self limiting anaerobic training.

This subsequent rapid increase in lactate lowers the blood PH and causes acidosis forcing the athlete to stop the intensity of exercise.

The aim is to train just below this threshold keeping the lactate at a steady state and an ability to maintain this intensity for prolonged periods.

Also this type of training and the training protocols given following the test are designed to stop over training but also increases the lactate tolerance levels and improves performance.

The test involves taking very small amounts of blood from a lancet to the ear or finger during various intensities of exercise heart rate. These samples are immediately analysed by the blood lactate monitor and the results are produced on a graph for visual identification and cross-referencing against heart rate.

These results and a training protocols are issued after appropriate analysis.

Is your training effective?
Are you exercising in the correct way?
Are you truly improving your cardiovascular capability?

Tailored to the individual athlete’s requirements the activ8rehab fitness tests will identify current strengths and weaknesses and provide invaluable data on present physical condition. Maintaining strengths and targeting the areas that need work is vital if you are to realise your full sporting potential.

This test is also available and extremely valuable to the health and fitness or general sports enthusiast. Utilising the results to create a more efficient training protocol and guide you into a more effective programme aimed at your own particular requirements.

The test can be used as an indicator of pre-season fitness or mid-season to fine-tune training programmes.

Standard Test incorporates:

Blood Pressure
Heart rate
Pulmonary Measurements (Lung Function)
Body Composition (Body Fat, Hydration etc)
Abdominal Condition / Core Stability
Vo2 max (Aerobic Capacity)
Power Endurance (Anaerobic – Fatigue index)

Additional components may be added from the following list:

Isokinetic Muscle Performance Test ( lower or upper limb)
Biomechanical / Gait analysis/ Bike Analysis
Physiotherapy screen
